The Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa is on the north coast at Papetoai, on the point between Moorea's two bays, 13 km from the island's airport.¹² Tahiti Tourisme counts 104 bungalows and three bars and restaurants.³ Its obvious comparison is the Sofitel Kia Ora on Temae beach, the island's other big overwater resort. This page covers what each bungalow type gets you, what it costs on given 2027 dates, how to get there without a resort boat, and the downsides. 02 · Where it is

On the point,
between the bays.

Hilton describes the resort as being on the north end of Moorea, between two bays, a mountain and the reef.¹ In local terms that is Papetoai, the stretch of coast at the mouth of Opunohu Bay, with the public beach of Ta'ahiamanu and the Te Fare Natura eco-museum nearby and the valley road climbing to the marae and the Belvedere.¹¹¹² It is quiet in the evenings, and a good base for the island's land sights: Hilton puts the Belvedere and the agricultural school 6 km away and the Rotui juice factory 2 km.¹

The ferries land on the other side of the island. Aremiti, Tauati Ferry and Vaeara'i all sail from the Papeete ferry terminal to Vaiare, in the east, and the crossing takes 30 to 50 minutes depending on the boat.¹³¹⁴¹⁵ From Vaiare it is a drive across the north coast. Moorea's airport, at Temae, is 13 km from the resort; Air Tahiti flies there from Tahiti in 15 minutes, but there is no airport shuttle, so it's a taxi, a rental car or a hotel transfer.¹⁵

Hilton's pages don't publish a transfer price from the ferry or the airport, so ask when booking.¹ The resort's free car park changes the calculation: a rental car from the Vaiare quay or the airport covers the transfer and the island's sights in one go, and Avis meets ferry arrivals at Vaiare.¹¹⁶

03 · Bungalows and rooms

King Overwater Bungalow

The standard overwater room, sleeping three, with a living area, balcony and glass panels in the floor over the reef.⁶⁹ From 115,952 XPF (approximately US$1,135) for 15 February 2027 and 195,290 XPF (approximately US$1,915) for 14 July 2027.⁹¹⁰

King Beach Overwater Bungalow

An overwater bungalow placed near the beach; on both 2027 searches it was the cheapest overwater category, 111,117 XPF in February and 177,087 XPF in July.⁹¹⁰ The name suggests a position near the beach; ask, since near-shore usually means shallower water underneath.

Panoramic and Premium Panoramic Overwater Bungalows

The top two overwater categories, sleeping three: 129,206–134,958 XPF in February 2027 and 205,011–210,666 XPF in July 2027.⁹¹⁰ Hilton doesn't publish what the extra buys beyond the name; ask which pontoon and how far out.

Garden bungalows with private pool

King, Twin and King Deluxe versions, each with a private terrace, an outdoor shower and a plunge pool, sleeping three.⁶ The cheapest unit at the resort on the February search: 73,606 XPF (approximately US$720) for the twin.⁹

King Garden Suite with Private Pool

Separate bedroom and living area, sleeps four: the resort's family unit. 195,290 XPF on 14 July 2027; sold out for the February date.¹⁰⁹

King Garden Guestroom

The only non-bungalow category, sleeping three; 114,877 XPF on 14 July 2027.¹⁰ Every room type has a marble bathroom with rain shower and soaking tub, and a minibar of local juices, soft drinks and beer that is free and refilled daily.⁶

04 · The water

Glass floors,
sharks under the crêperie.

Hilton's overwater bungalows have glass floor panels over the coral below, and the resort's crêperie, Toatea, is built over the water: Hilton says lagoon sharks swim underneath, and Tahiti Tourisme's listing names them as blacktips.⁶⁷³ Kayaks and paddleboards are free, and Hilton runs a partnership with HelloReef, a local coral-restoration project, which guests can book.¹⁷

The best-known snorkeling on Moorea is a drive or a boat away: the ray-and-shark sandbank off Les Tipaniers in the north-west, which is too far to swim to, and the underwater tikis off Papetoai that most lagoon tours include.¹⁸¹⁹ The resort's tour desk books lagoon outings, 4x4 tours and hikes.² For a public beach close by, Ta'ahiamanu at the mouth of Opunohu Bay has calm water, a car park and toilets.¹¹

From July to October, humpbacks pass outside the reef. Whale watching is only legal outside the lagoon, bays and passes, with licensed operators and at most seven swimmers per boat including the guide.²⁰ Hilton's own pages don't list a whale programme; book with a licensed operator.

05 · Eating and drinking

Four places,
one over the water.

Arii Vahine

The main restaurant, facing the lagoon: breakfast buffet 06:30–10:00 and dinner 18:30–21:30.⁷ Tahiti Tourisme notes that non-guests can book a table.²¹

Toatea Bar & Crêperie

Over the water: sweet and savoury crêpes, 18:00–21:30 daily. Hilton calls it the only overwater restaurant on Moorea.⁷²

Rotui Grill & Bar

By the beach and pool. The bar is open 10:00–21:30 daily; the restaurant serves 11:00–21:30 on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 11:00–16:30 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.⁷

Eimeo Bar

Cocktails and light bites for sunset, 16:00–22:00, with a daily happy hour.⁷

Off the resort

Lilikoi Garden Café, a lunch-only food truck at Pihaena near the Hilton, opens Monday to Saturday, 11:00–15:00.²² Moorea's food trucks charge 1,500–2,500 XPF (approximately US$15–25) a dish and ordinary restaurants 2,500–6,000 XPF a head, by Tahiti Tourisme's 2026 guide.²³

Festive nights

Dinners on 24 and 31 December are compulsory and not in the room rate: 25,000 XPF (approximately US$245) and 35,000 XPF (approximately US$345) per adult in 2026, half price for children aged 5 to 11, free under 5.⁸¹⁷

06 · Spa, pool, children

Spa, pool
and what's missing.

The beachfront spa opens daily, 09:00–17:30, with massages, wraps, scrubs and facials using Polynesian ingredients, couples' treatments and a beauty salon; Hilton's activity page adds a sauna, a hammam, a whirlpool and Sothys skincare.²⁴¹⁷ There are tennis courts, a fitness centre and yoga sessions.¹⁷

Hilton calls the pool a lagoon-style pool on one page and an infinity pool on another; either way it sits by the beach, with poolside service.²²⁵ We found no adults-only pool or area.

There is no kids' club on Hilton's pages. The resort lists childcare and cribs, and the garden suite sleeps four; for activities, Moorea itself does more for children than the resort does, with Ta'ahiamanu and Temae beaches and Te Fare Natura nearby.⁶¹¹¹²

Points and
the rate offers.

The resort is in Hilton Honors. Its offers page lists a breakfast-included rate, a long-stay package worth up to 20% off at participating resorts, a resort credit offer and the brand's points promotions.⁸ Award prices are dynamic, so compare cash and points for your own dates when signed in.

Points go further at the sister Conrad Bora Bora Nui, whose cheapest overwater pool villa cost 188,228 XPF on the same February 2027 night that the Hilton's cheapest overwater bungalow cost 111,117 XPF.²⁷⁹ One way to split a trip: Moorea on cash, Bora Bora on points. The Sofitel is Moorea's Accor alternative, in the ALL programme.

Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at 11:00.² With Aremiti's weekday sailings from Papeete running from 05:15 to 17:30, a same-day ferry arrival leaves time to settle in; a late international flight into Tahiti does not.⁴

Verdict. Pick the Hilton for the north coast and the valley, for a garden bungalow with its own pool, and for Hilton Honors; pick the Sofitel for Temae beach, the shortest ferry transfer on the island and breakfast in the rate. On our 2027 searches the Hilton's cheapest overwater bungalow was about 4% cheaper in February and about 10% cheaper in July, before counting the breakfast and taxes in the Sofitel's price. Moorea's third big resort is Manava Beach Resort, with 90 units in Maharepa.³⁶ Our editorial ranking is on the best Moorea resorts.

10 · Who it suits

Who it suits,
who it doesn't.

It suits couples who want an overwater bungalow without the Bora Bora bill: on our February 2027 search the cheapest overwater bungalow was 111,117 XPF, about half the Four Seasons Bora Bora's cheapest suite for the same night.⁹³⁷ It suits travellers with a rental car, who can use the free car park and the resort's position next to the Opunohu valley, and Hilton Honors members. And the garden bungalows give you a private pool for 73,606–121,416 XPF a night across our two dates, a fraction of what a pool costs over the water on Bora Bora.⁹¹⁰

It doesn't suit families looking for a kids' club, or anyone who wants an adults-only pool. It doesn't suit a same-day arrival on a late international flight: the last ferries leave Papeete in the late afternoon.⁴ And it doesn't suit travellers who want to walk to restaurants every night; beyond the resort and a lunch food truck nearby, you'll drive.
